So as regular readers may have gathered, I am pretty hopeless with my hair. I get it trimmed irregularly (usually when the split ends start to show), rarely brush it (I like the messy look), abuse it with copious amounts of hair dye and in general avoid any form of styling (it takes too much effort!).
It’s been years, absolute YEARS since I committed to a proper blowdry so when Aveda kindly offered me a complimentary one I gingerly accepted.
You see, me and hairdressers…we don’t always get on. The hankering accusations of “who dyed your hair?! It’s so uneven!” and “when did you last get it cut?!” to the hard sale of ”your hair really NEEDS xxx products or else your hair will suffer and die” (ok slight exaggeration…but you know what I mean). All these little digs tend to put me off visiting hair salons.
I had my appointment on Friday with a lovely stylist called Francesca who immediately proclaimed her love for my diy ombre! We were onto a good start! She washed my hair with Aveda’s fantastic Madder Root shampoo & conditioner (perfect for bringing out warm tones in red hair) before settling me into a chair for my blow-dry.
I opted for volume & curl as my hair is naturally straight & fine. I was curious to see how BIG it actually could go…
Here I am all washed and ready for my styling! Aveda have single use towels which I was told save on energy & are biodegradable, making them better for the environment. They are also super soft too!
Francesca applied Aveda’s volumising tonic to my roots together with some gel to help hold the style. My hair was sectioned and blow dried before loosely forming them into pin curls.
The result….BIG WHOPPING HAIR!
I never ever would have thought my pathetically limp and fine hair could ever amount to something this amazingly BIG! Whilst the initial Cheryl Cole largeness was a tad too humongeous for me I was super impressed with what was achieved and after a few hours it settled down, leaving my hair looking shiny with great volume which lasted for the whole weekend. Hooray!

Think my little visit to the salon may have sparked a new desire for volume *nods*
Big (no pun intended I swear!) thanks to Francesca & Aveda for such a lovely weekend treat!
