ILLAMASQUA FREAK FRAGRANCE OUT NOW

Avant Garde British beauty brand Illamasqua, release their debut fragrance today.
Described as a “concoction of dangerously exotic unconventional flowers that Illamasqua has unashamedly blended together to celebrate the night”,  Freak is a combination of unusual floras…see fragrance pyramid below:

TOP NOTES of Black Davana, Opium Flower and Belladonna bewitch the senses into uncontrollable lust and passion.
HEART NOTES
Poison Hemlock, Datura and Queen of the Night blossom, caress and kiss.
BASE NOTES
Aromas of Frankincense, Oud and Myrrh, addictively mesmerises and captures the senses.

Intriguing! So when I was kindly sent a sample of the fragrance I damn near ripped the box open to get to it, such was my curiosity.

The bottle itself is unique…toppled at an angle with a silver coloured snail sneaking it’s way up, it’s a bottle that combines timeless classic design with unexpected features.

Since  then I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks now and it’s a very delicate fragrance. Not what I was expecting at all. Hard to pin point the scents given the curious selection of flowers, but you can smell the headier base ever so lightly if you know what you are sniffing for so to speak. It’s a very likeable, light fragrance which is strange to say given that oud and frankincense are involved.

The boys and girls in my office LOVED it but I was left wanting more from it. With a name like Freak I kind of had big expectations and was hoping in a weird way that I would LOATH it…safe in the knowledge that it was genuinely a freak of nature! (I was thinking of Womanity and Poison for example). One that immediately screamed for a response from me to either declare undying, heart wretching love for it…or sheer utter disgust.

Freak was neither and I was indeed surprised to find it super wearable and very floral. Very unexpected.
