I have to admit…the word “healthy” often makes me shudder. Images of being at school, in a cold wet field in horrible itchy sports gear with barking teachers dictating what I should be doing never ever striked me as enjoyable.
You see my idea of healthy is cunningly disguised in the form of something fun…whilst I loath the gym and treadmills I have no problem walking for miles with our family dog Gruff. See! *points below*
There is something all that more appealing when you set out on an adventure with a four legged friend. Perhaps its his constant enthusiasm for getting out, being social and exploring that makes walking with him all that more enticing…
Our favourite walk is in Richmond Park (and no hes not like the infamous Fenton!). We have a particular path we both love, it’s where all the dog folk go so he can meet his friends and it’s a long stretch of open fields, past the horse tracks and up to the cluster of trees where the squirrels live.
This is where we do our aerobics and weights, Gruff constantly bounding from tree to tree, jumping up and down like a mad thing, and me? I lift him up and down do he can get a better view of squirrels he will never ever be able to catch. When you’re carrying a 10kg Westie it can be just as good as weights in the gym!
Our stroll lasts us a good hour and then it’s home for a much deserved breakfast and snooze.
